Jesus, My Light in this fallen world.

Jesus, My Light in This Fallen World

Jesus, my light in this fallen world—when darkness presses in,

When shadows stretch and hope grows faint and fear begins to win.

You are the beacon on the hill, the lamp upon my feet,

The dawning of a brand new day when night has been complete.

When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (John 8:12)

This world is fallen—I can see it all around:

The brokenness, the bitterness, the sorrows that abound.

But You have not left me to stumble through the gloom.

You are the light that pierces through, that brightens every tomb.

Jesus, my light—not distant, not a star I strain to see,

But near, within, beside me, shining constantly.

You guide my steps through treacherous paths, through valleys dark and deep,

And in Your presence, even shadows learn to sing and leap.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105)

The light of Christ—it shows me what is true.

It exposes lies, it heals my wounds, it makes my spirit new.

It does not hide the fallenness, but shows a better way:

To walk as children of the day, until the perfect day.

So let the world grow dim around—let darkness do its worst.

My Jesus is the Morning Star, the one who broke the curse.

He shines within, He shines before, He shines to lead me home.

Jesus, my light in this fallen world—I never walk alone.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (John 1:5)

Amen.
