Light in the tempest.

"Light in the tempest" is a powerful image of God's presence and guidance in the midst of life's most chaotic and frightening storms. It speaks of a hope that is not dependent on calm seas, but on a steadfast beacon within the squall.

Here is a poem and prayer on this theme.

Light in the Tempest

The wind screams fury, the waves crash high,

A darkened water,a threatening sky.

The boat is small, the oars are weak,

The future that I seek seems bleak.

I cannot see the shore or star,

I've forgotten how I traveled far.

The tempest rages,deep and vast,

And shadows from the present,past.

But in the chaos, a piercing ray,

That cuts the darkness, turns night to day.

It does not calm the storm at first,

But quells the terror, slakes the thirst

Of a soul that's lost and filled with dread—

A different,truer path is led.

You are the Light in the tempest.

A steady beam upon the foam,

That guides my battered vessel home.

A light that shines on swirling deeps,

A vigil that my Father keeps.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?”(Psalm 27:1)

This light reveals the way to steer,

Through waves of panic, through the fear.

It shows the next step, just one more,

Instead of the unending,savage roar.

You are the God who walks on waves,

Whose power the wildest ocean saves.

You are the Voice that whispers,“Peace,”

And makes the frantic striving cease.

So let the tempest do its worst,

My soul in You is anchored, nursed.

For in the darkest,fiercest gale,

Your light will never,ever fail.

You are my Light in the tempest.

My hope.

My guide.

My peace.

A Prayer for the Storm:

"Lord God, my Light and my Salvation,

The tempest is real. The waves of [name your specific storm] are crashing over me, and I am afraid. I feel lost in the darkness and chaos.

I look to You now. Be the Light in my tempest. Pierce through this darkness with Your truth. Guide my next step. Calm the storm inside my heart, even if the winds around me still rage.

Help me to keep my eyes fixed on You, the unwavering Light who cannot be extinguished. I trust in Your presence more than I trust in the power of this storm.

Thank you for being my sure and certain guide. In Jesus' name, Amen."
