Lord, set us the captives free.

Amen. “Set us the captives free” is the cry of every soul that has known the weight of chains—whether they be chains of sin, shame, fear, addiction, depression, or oppression. It is the prayer that echoes the very mission of Jesus, who came to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and release for the oppressed.

📖 The Scriptural Foundation

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free.” (Luke 4:18)

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36)

“He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son.” (Colossians 1:13, ESV)

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1)

“I will break the yoke from their neck and tear off their chains.” (Nahum 1:13, NLT)

“He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke their chains in pieces.” (Psalm 107:14, NKJV)

🔓 What It Means to Be Set Free

This Means... Because... A Scripture to Hold

Freedom from Sin Sin no longer has dominion over you. “Sin shall no longer be your master.” (Romans 6:14)

Freedom from Shame Your past is forgiven and forgotten. “As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions.” (Psalm 103:12)

Freedom from Fear You are no longer a slave to fear. “You have not received a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear.” (Romans 8:15)

Freedom from the Enemy The power of darkness has been broken. “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness.” (Colossians 1:13)

Freedom from Oppression The yoke is broken and the chains are shattered. “I will break the yoke from their neck.” (Nahum 1:13)

Freedom to Live You are free to love, serve, and worship. “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.” (Galatians 5:1)

🙏 A Prayer to Set the Captives Free

Father,

We cry out to You for freedom.

Set the captives free.

Break every chain of sin.

Shatter every yoke of oppression.

Tear down every stronghold of the enemy.

Open every prison door.

Set free those who are bound by fear.

Set free those who are trapped in shame.

Set free those who are held by addiction.

Set free those who are crushed by depression.

Set free those who are oppressed by darkness.

You are the God who sets prisoners free.

You are the God who breaks chains.

You are the God who opens doors.

We declare that the Son has set us free.

We declare that we are free indeed.

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36)

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

🕊️ A Declaration of Freedom

I declare today:

We are set free by the Son.

Every chain is broken.

Every yoke is shattered.

Every prison door is opened.

We are free from sin.

We are free from shame.

We are free from fear.

We are free from oppression.

We will not return to the chains of the past.

We will not be held by the weight of darkness.

We will walk in the liberty of Christ.

For the Son has set us free—

And we are free indeed.

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1)

💎 A Final Encouragement

Freedom is not a distant hope—it is a present reality in Christ. He came to set the captives free, and He has not changed. Whatever prison you find yourself in, He holds the keys. Whatever chain binds you, He has the power to break it. Whatever darkness surrounds you, He is the light that overcomes it. Cry out to Him today. He hears. He cares. He sets free.

If you are struggling with persistent spiritual oppression, addiction, or mental distress, please also reach out to a trusted pastor, Christian counselor, or medical professional. God often brings freedom through wise counsel and community. You are not alone.

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” (Psalm 23:1)

Set us the captives free, Lord—we trust in You. 🙏🔥💙
