God Will Provide What to Eat and What to Wear
A Reflection on Matthew 6:25-34, Philippians 4:19, and Psalm 37:25
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” (Matthew 6:25-26)
God will provide what to eat and what to wear—
Not just the bread upon the table, not just the clothes we wear.
He is the God who feeds the sparrows, who clothes the lilies of the field,
And He will not withhold His provision from those who to Him yield.
He knows your needs before you ask,
He sees your worry, He sees your task.
He is not distant, He is not cold,
He is the Father who will hold
You in His hand, He will provide,
He will never leave you to the side.
The birds of the air—they do not worry,
They do not fret, they do not hurry.
Yet your Father feeds them every day,
Will He not much more make a way?
The lilies of the field—they do not labor,
They do not spin, they do not favor
Themselves with worry about their clothes,
Yet God clothes them, as everyone knows.
“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.” (Matthew 6:28-29)
Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness,
And all these things will be given to you, no less.
Not by your striving, not by your might,
But by His grace, by His light.
He will provide—not always in the way you expect,
But always in the way He will direct.
He knows what is best, He sees the end,
And He will be your provider, your friend.
And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)
So do not worry about tomorrow,
Do not borrow the weight of sorrow.
Today has enough trouble of its own,
But with God, you are never alone.
He will provide—in the morning, in the night,
In the darkness, in the light.
He will provide what to eat and what to wear,
And He will always be there.
I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. (Psalm 37:25)
Trust in the Lord—He will never fail,
He will provide, He will prevail.
He is your Shepherd, your Provider, your King,
And He will give you everything.
So I will not worry, I will not fear,
For my God is near, He is here.
He will provide what to eat and what to wear,
And I will rest in His loving care.
Amen.
