You are the Living God.

 You Are the Living God

You are not carved of wood or stone, of gold or human art,

A silent,sightless idol with a cold and vacant heart.

You are theLiving God—the Breath behind all breath,

The One who spoke to chaos and conquered certain death.

But the Lord is the true God; he is the living God and the everlasting King. (Jeremiah 10:10)

Your voice is in the thunder, Your whisper in the dawn,

Your life is in the seedling from the buried husk that's drawn.

You hear,You see, You act, You move, You feel, You know, You care—

A vibrant,fierce existence, beyond all thought or compare.

The idols of the nations are deaf and dumb and still,

ButYou—You parted oceans and You speak and work Your will.

You walk with men in fire,You shut the lion's mouth,

You turn the hearts of kings and sovereigns from the north to south.

For they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God. (1 Thessalonians 1:9)

And You proved it most completely on a wooden, Roman tree,

When Life itself lay buried to set dead men free.

For death could not contain You;the grave could not prevail—

The stone was rolled from emptiness to tell the living tale!

So we worship not a concept, a tradition, or a creed,

But theLiving God who meets us in our deepest, sharpest need.

You are ourLiving Water, our Living Bread, our Living Way,

OurLiving Hope forever, our Living Word today.

You are the Living God.

And because You live, we live.

We worship You.
