The Lord Is Your Benefactor
The Lord is your benefactor—not a distant, faceless fate,
But a Father of intention, whose provision is innate.
Not a payer of wages for a service You could bring,
But the generous, unshakable, foundational Well and Spring.
Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. (Psalm 16:5)
He is the opener of windows in heaven’s storehouse dome,
The One who calls you cherished, who calls your heart His home.
He does not fund your fleeting whims or selfish, small desire,
But invests His boundless riches in your eternal good, your higher
Calling to reflect His glory,to be shaped into His name,
To steward every blessing for the honor of His fame.
What shall I render to the Lord for all His benefits to me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord.(Psalm 116:12-13)
For the benefit is Himself—His presence, His sure peace,
His character your portion, which will never, ever cease.
The gifts are but the wrapping;the Giver is the gold.
The truest benefaction is a story to be told
Of grace that saw your poverty and chose to make you rich,
Not with what rusts and fades, but with a love which fills the ditch
Of every hollow longing with a Person, vast and deep.
The Lord, your benefactor—a promise He will keep.
So receive with open hands, and with a heart that understands,
The greatest of His benefits is held in nail-scarred hands.
He is your portion. He is your prize.
Your unfailing benefactor, wise.
Amen.
