Psalm 51: Psalm of David Repentance.

 **"PSALM 51: A BROKEN HYMN"**

*(Poetic Adaptation of David's Repentance Psalm)*

---

### **1. MERCY’S PLEA** *(v.1-2)*

*"Not justice—*mercy*, God I plead,

Wash me till no stain remains.

Not just surface, but the seed—

Blot out all my guilty chains."*

---

### **2. SIN’S CONFESSION** *(v.3-5)*

*"My rebellion haunts my sight,

Twisted from my mother’s womb.

Every day this inward blight—

You desire *truth* in hidden rooms."*

---

### **3. HYSSOP’S TOUCH** *(v.6-9)*

*"Purge me with that priestly branch,

Sprinkle grace on fractured bone.

Let me hear the angels dance—

‘Clean!’ they’ll shout before Your throne."*

---

### **4. HEART TRANSPLANT** *(v.10-12)*

*"Take this heart of stone and break,

Mold it soft with holy fire.

Don’t discard me—*remake*!

Lift me from the ash and mire."*

---

### **5. JOY RESTORED** *(v.13-15)*

*"Then I’ll teach the lost Your ways,

Singing through redeemed lips.

Broken psalms become true praise—

When mercy lifts the whip."*

---

### **6. TRUE SACRIFICE** *(v.16-19)*

*"You want no bull upon the pyre,

Just my soul laid bare, undone.

Contrite heart—Your one desire,

Crushed to spark redemption’s sun."*

---

**SCRIPTURAL ECHOES:**

- *v.7* → Hebrews 9:14 (Hyssop’s fulfillment in Christ)

- *v.10* → Ezekiel 36:26 (New heart promise)

- *v.17* → Psalm 34:18 (God near the broken)

**MODERN REFRAIN OPTION:**

*"Mercy, mercy, drown my shame—

Wash me in the Lamb’s own pain.

Not my tears, but *His* blood speaks:

‘You are clean,’ my Savior shrieks."*

---

This poem distills David’s raw confession into lyrical form.
