The Everlasting Word of God
The Word of God stands forever—unchanged, unchanging, true.
Not a whisper lost to history, not a promise long withdrawn,
But a living, breathing testimony that outlasts the brightest dawn.
Through the rise and fall of empires, through the shifting sands of time,
Its truth remains unshaken, its message still sublime.
The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever. (Isaiah 40:8)
Before the mountains were brought forth, before the earth took shape,
Before the first light broke the dark, before the first grape,
The Word was with the Father, the Word was God alone,
The eternal conversation within the triune throne.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1)
The everlasting Word of God—it spoke and worlds were born.
It parted seas and shattered chains, it healed the broken and torn.
It came in flesh to dwell with us, to tabernacle here,
To speak in human language, to make the Father clear.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)
It cannot be broken. Jesus said it plain:
"Scripture cannot be broken"—every word, every strain.
Not one jot, not one tittle shall pass away until
All is accomplished, all fulfilled, according to His will.
For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. (Matthew 5:18)
The everlasting Word of God—a lamp unto my feet,
A light unto my pathway, making my journey sweet.
A sword that pierces to the heart, dividing soul and spirit,
A mirror that reveals myself, so I can truly hear it.
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)
It is settled in heaven, forever fixed and sure.
Its promises are yes and amen, its warnings are secure.
It is the seed that brings new birth, the milk that makes us grow,
The solid food for those mature, the truth we need to know.
Your word, Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. (Psalm 119:89)
The everlasting Word of God—when heaven and earth pass away,
When stars grow dim and suns burn out and matter will decay,
This Word will still be standing, this truth will still remain,
The final, eternal testimony that Jesus Christ will reign.
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. (Matthew 24:35)
So I will build my life upon it, this Rock that cannot move.
I will trust its every promise, its wisdom I will prove.
For the everlasting Word of God is my foundation sure—
The only truth that lasts forever, the only hope secure.
Amen.
