The Blessing of Abraham Be Upon Our Life
The blessing of Abraham be upon our life—
The covenant promise that cuts through all strife.
Not earned by our striving, not bought by our hand,
But gifted through faith in the God of the land.
I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you. (Genesis 12:2-3)
The blessing of Abraham—to be set apart,
A people of faith, with a circumcised heart.
To walk in the footsteps of one who believed,
And through his obedience, a nation received.
The blessing of Abraham—to be fruitful and increase,
To know the God of promises, the God of perfect peace.
To have descendants like the stars, like the sand upon the shore,
A legacy of faith that will endure forevermore.
He took him outside and said, "Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them." Then he said to him, "So shall your offspring be." Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness. (Genesis 15:5-6)
The blessing of Abraham—to be blessed in every way,
In our coming in, our going out, in all we do and say.
In our barns and in our baskets, in our families and our health,
In the measure of our portion, in the abundance of our wealth.
The blessing of Abraham—to be a blessing to the nations,
To carry hope to every tribe, to every generation.
To be conduits of grace, channels of His love,
Pointing souls to Jesus, the greatest gift from above.
He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit. (Galatians 3:14)
The blessing of Abraham be upon our life today—
Not as magic or as formula, but as we trust and pray.
For we are children of the promise, heirs according to the faith,
And the God who blessed our father Abraham still blesses us, He saith.
So we receive it now, by faith, and we declare it true:
The blessing of Abraham is ours—yes, ours, because of You.
In Christ, we are descendants; in Christ, we are made heirs.
The blessing of Abraham—our Father's love declares.
Amen.
