Genesis: A Poem of Beginnings
I. The Dawn of All
In the beginning,void and deep,
Where silent,formless shadows sleep,
God’s Spirit moved upon the face
Of waters in that timeless space.
He spoke a word:“Let there be light!”
And shattered was the endless night.
He carved the sky,the seas, the land,
And shaped it all with His own hand.
Then life He breathed,both great and small,
And saw it all,and blessed it all.
And last of all,His work supreme,
He made man in His image-dream.
To rule the world,to tend the sod,
And walk with God.
II. The Shattering
In gardens green,a serpent spoke,
And with a lie,the silence broke.
The fruit was taken,bite by bite,
And innocence was lost to night.
They hid in shame,they heard the sound
Of God who walked on holy ground.
A curse was spoken,yet in grace,
A promise shone in that dark place:
A Seed would come,the serpent’s head
To crush,though His own heel would bleed.
III. A World Washed Clean
From Adam’s line,the blood cried out,
As sin and violence grew throughout
The hearts of men.God saw the strife,
And sorrow pierced His heart of life.
But Noah found grace.An ark was made,
A floating haven,God’s own aid.
The fountains burst,the rain fell down,
And all the world,in waves, did drown.
A bow was set within the cloud,
A covenant spoken,clear and loud.
IV. A Tower and a Call
A prideful tower sought the sky,
A city reaching,man’s boast high.
God saw their heart,their single tongue,
And into nations,they were flung.
Then from that place,God called one man,
To start a new,unfolding plan.
“Go,Abram, go to a land unknown,
And I will make your name a throne.”
In faith he went.A promise sealed:
A son,a star-field, grace revealed.
V. The Fathers and Their Woes
To Abraham,a son at last,
Though Sarah laughed at futures vast.
On Moriah’s hill,the knife was raised,
A ram provided,God was praised.
To Isaac,Jacob, strife was sown,
A birthright stolen,a blessing flown.
A ladder saw from heaven descend,
God’s promise sure,to be his friend.
Then Jacob wrestled through the night,
And emerged with scars and blessed light.
VI. A Coat, A Pit, A Throne
A father’s favorite,Joseph, sold
For pieces of corrupted gold.
To Egypt’s pit,then prison’s chain,
But God was with him in the pain.
He read the dreams of butler,king,
And from the dungeon,power would spring.
A famine gripped the world with dread,
His brothers came,for want of bread.
“You meant for evil,”Joseph said,
“But God for good,to save, instead.”
The family came, to Egypt bowed,
A great nation,by promise vowed.
So Genesis ends,with Joseph’s breath,
Not in their land,but in a death.
A coffin in Egypt,a promise yet true,
For God has a plan He will surely see through.
