 **What a Friend We Have in Jesus**  

*A Poem with Scriptures*  

**What a friend we have in Jesus,**  

All our sins and griefs to bear!  

*"Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you."* (1 Peter 5:7)  

**What a privilege to carry**  

Everything to God in prayer.  

*"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."* (Philippians 4:6)  

**Oh, what peace we often forfeit,**  

Oh, what needless pain we bear—  

*"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."* (Matthew 11:28)  

**All because we do not carry**  

Everything to God in prayer.  

*"The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth."* (Psalm 145:18)  

**Have we trials and temptations?**  

Is there trouble anywhere?  

*"No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear."* (1 Corinthians 10:13)  

**We should never be discouraged—**  

Take it to the Lord in prayer.  

*"Why, my soul, are you downcast? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God."* (Psalm 42:11)  

**Can we find a friend so faithful,**  

Who will all our sorrows share?  

*"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends."* (John 15:13)  

**Jesus knows our every weakness—**  

Take it to the Lord in prayer!  

*"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet He did not sin."* (Hebrews 4:15)  

**In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,**  

Thou wilt find a solace there.  

*"The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms."* (Deuteronomy 33:27)  

**Blessèd Savior, Thou hast promised**  

Thou wilt all our burdens bear.  

*"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."* (Matthew 11:29)  

**May we ever, Lord, be bringing**  

All to Thee in earnest prayer.  

*"Pray continually."* (1 Thessalonians 5:17)  

**Soon in glory bright, unclouded,**  

There will be no need for prayer—  

*"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain."* (Revelation 21:4)  

**But while here in faith we wander,**  

Jesus, take our every care.  

*"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding."* (Proverbs 3:5)  

**What a Friend we have in Jesus,**  

Ever near, so strong, so true!  

*"The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me."* (Psalm 28:7)  

**Praise the Lord, our mighty Savior,**  

Who makes all our burdens light!  

*"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever."* (Psalm 107:1)
